Jennifer Kaplan Recipient of Award for Best Trainee Poster Presentation at 2015 AHI Meeting

Jennifer Kaplan, M.D., a research resident in the UCSF General Surgery Residency Program, received the award for Best Trainee Poster Presentation from the Academy for Healthcare Improvement (AHI) at the organization's 2015 annual meeting. 

The presentation, "Health Coaching By Health Professions Students for Frail Older Adults Scheduled for High Risk Elective Surgery", was developed by members of a multidisciplinary research group in the UCSF Center for Surgery in Older Adults (CSOA).

In addition to lead presenter Jennifer Kaplan, MD, collaborators in the development of the presentation included Jeanette M. (Jenny) Broering R.N., Ph.D., MPH, Diana Teng, RN, Zabecca S. Brinson, M.D., Victoria L. Tang, M.D., and Emily Finlayson, M.D., M.S., Associate Professor in the UCSF Department of Surgery and Phillip R. Lee Institute for Health Policy Studies, and Director of the Center for Surgery in Older Adults.

About the Program

The UCSF Center for Surgery in Older Adults (CSOA) seeks to discover and implement patient-centered best practices in geriatric surgery that will help older patients achieve their treatment goals and maintain independence and vitality. CSOA's overarching goal is to discover best practices in geriatric surgery through patient-centered outcomes assessment, comparative effectiveness analyses, and interventional trials. In addition, the program identifies and explores barriers to delivery of optimal care with the aim to improve implementation of interdisciplinary patient-centered surgical care for older adults.
